Humphry Slocombe Ice Cream Opens at Bay Street Emeryville

Humphry Slocombe, San Francisco’s Rebellious Ice Cream Brand to Open Newest Location at Bay Street Emeryville on September 13th

On a mission to make ice cream less vanilla, Humphry  Slocombe the adult, chef-driven ice creamery known for unexpected flavors announced the  opening of its third location in the East Bay on September 13th at Bay Street Emeryville. To  celebrate the opening, the ice creamery will give out free scoops to celebrate with its new  neighbors from 12n-7pm. They ask guests for an optional donation of $1 when they grab their  free scoop. Humphry Slocombe will donate all proceeds to the East Bay branch of Project Open  Hand, their longtime charity of choice. “We are so appreciative to be a part of Humphry  Slocombe’s grand opening of their new location in Emeryville. We have a long-standing  relationship with Humphry Slocombe, and they have always supported our efforts to bring  healthy and nutritious foods to our community members,” said Paul Hepfer, Project Open Hand  Chief Executive Officer.

“We are excited to open this newest location in Emeryville and we’ve already started to partner  with our neighbors on special events and flavors – coming soon” said Sean Vahey, Humphry  Slocombe Co-Founder.

A San Francisco favorite, Humphry Slocombe offers a menu of unusual and trailblazing ice  cream flavors. Among the best-sellers is Secret Breakfast, made with bourbon and cornflakes.  Once the cornflakes are baked into a crispy cookie, they are folded into a rich ice cream base  infused with vanilla and bourbon. Food Network has named Secret Breakfast one of the Top 5  Ice Creams in America.

Other popular and intriguing flavors include: Elvis the Fat Years, Peanut Butter Curry, and  Pepper & Mint Chip. Humphry Slocombe is also known for its collaborations with local  brands. This August, they are featuring Churron (with Senior Sisig), Berry Kouign Amann (with  Starter Bakery), and Pina Claude-a (with NightLife at Cal Academy) at their five scoop shops. At  Bay Street Emeryville, Humphry Slocombe already has plans to partner with new neighbors like  Tipsy Putt and Sandbox VR.

Each flavor is invented by Humphry Slocombe’s classically trained chef and co-founder, Jake  Godby, who has been called the Willy Wonka of ice cream. The flavors are hand-crafted in small  batches.

While the company founders don’t think of their flavors as ‘unusual’ by their own standards,  they invite customers to sample everything in the dip case so they can decide for themselves!

About Humphry Slocombe

Rebellious and unapologetic, Humphry Slocombe’s ice cream has its own personality and  flavors that appeal to adult tastes but is loved by all. Co-founders Jake Godby and Sean Vahey  opened their first shop in the Mission District in 2008, naming it after the two lead characters  (Mr. Humphries and Mrs. Slocombe) from the 1970’s sitcom “Are You Being Served?”

With the addition of the Bay Street Emeryville opening, the company has grown to include six  Scoop Shop locations in the San Francisco Bay Area: The Mission District, Ferry Building,  Oakland, Berkeley and Redwood City and also sells pre-packed pints in all Northern California  Whole Foods locations and other high-end markets.
