Pippal, the first East Bay restaurant from the team behind celebrated Indian restaurant Rooh, will shine a light on dishes that are hard to find in the Bay Area. The 2,700-square-foot restaurant at the Bay Street mall in Emeryville will take a more relaxed approach than its older, fancier siblings, with fast-casual service and large tables designed for sharing plates. Think clay-pot meat dishes from Bihar, in the country’s northeast mountainous reaches, and coastal dishes from Goa, a southern tropical province shaped by Portuguese colonization.
